Today's deck archetype is mono-green 'stompy.'
Green is all about creatures- big ones. Really big ones. Hence the term 'stompy.' Of course, big creatures generally cost a lot, so such decks must include some form of mana acceleration (generally known as 'ramp'). Here are a few such decks using cards available on Magic Arena (so Ixalan expansion or later). I confess, I'm not thrilled with these, but they'll have to do.
1) Stompy 1
Llanowar Elves are a great ramp card, enabling you to get the mana you need sooner. Goreclaw makes the big guys even better, Colossal Majesty helps with card draw, and once you get a few creatures out, Ghalta becomes easy to play.
1 Ghalta, Primal Hunger (RIX) 1301 Gigantosaurus (M19) 1851 Aggressive Mammoth (M19) 3023 Llanowar Elves (M19) 3141 Vigilant Baloth (M19) 2062 Bristling Boar (M19) 1703 Centaur Courser (M19) 1713 Rabid Bite (M19) 1952 Titanic Growth (M19) 20524 Forest (M19) 2772 Pelt Collector (GRN) 1412 Root Snare (M19) 1991 Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma (M19) 1861 Carnage Tyrant (XLN) 1791 Steel Leaf Champion (DAR) 1822 Thorn Lieutenant (M19) 2032 Colossal Majesty (M19) 1731 Thrashing Brontodon (RIX) 1481 Beast Whisperer (GRN) 1231 Pelakka Wurm (M19) 1921 Finale of Devastation (WAR) 1601 Nissa's Triumph (WAR) 1702 Blanchwood Armor (M19) 1691 Crushing Canopy (GRN) 126
2) Stompy 2
Throne of Eldraine has a lot of nice green cards. Pelt Collector (from Guilds of Ravnica) keeps growing, Questing Beast is an all-around champ, but the real winner here is Syr Faren. When plussed up with cards like Giant Growth, his ability makes another creature huge and can seal fast wins.
4 Barkhide Troll (M20) 1654 Gingerbrute (ELD) 2194 Pelt Collector (GRN) 1414 Stonecoil Serpent (ELD) 2354 Syr Faren, the Hengehammer (ELD) 1774 Questing Beast (ELD) 1714 Titanic Growth (M20) 3434 Giant Growth (WAR) 16222 Forest (IKO) 2722 Thrashing Brontodon (M20) 1974 Growth Cycle (M20) 175
3) Count on it
+1/+1 counters are an increasing deck archetype that plays well with stompy decks. Here, Pridemalkin, Yorvo, Renata, and Wildborn Preserver (among others) are really nice 'counter' cards.
4 Pridemalkin (M21) 19619 Forest (IKO) 2741 Evolution Sage (WAR) 1592 Primal Might (M21) 1974 Hunter's Edge (M21) 1892 The Great Henge (ELD) 1612 Syr Faren, the Hengehammer (ELD) 1772 Yorvo, Lord of Garenbrig (ELD) 1852 Renata, Called to the Hunt (THB) 1962 Questing Beast (ELD) 1711 Elder Gargaroth (M21) 1792 Pollenbright Druid (WAR) 1732 Track Down (M21) 2113 Wildborn Preserver (ELD) 1822 Wildwood Scourge (M21) 2144 Pelt Collector (GRN) 1412 Garruk's Uprising (M21) 1864 Castle Garenbrig (ELD) 240
4) Win or Lose, Draw
Like the deck title? This is all about card draw, another green strength. Jolrael and Burlfist Oak really like card draw, enabled by cards like Llanowar Visionary and Elder Gargaroth. Watch out for Jolrael's activated ability- I wasn't paying attention and activated it once when I had no cards in hand, killing all of my creatures. Fun!
4 Jolrael, Mwonvuli Recluse (M21) 19123 Forest (IKO) 2744 Setessan Training (M21) 2054 Track Down (M21) 2114 Llanowar Visionary (M21) 1934 Burlfist Oak (M21) 1742 Elder Gargaroth (M21) 1792 Hunter's Edge (M21) 1894 Skyscanner (M21) 2382 Heroic Intervention (M21) 1884 Portcullis Vine (M21) 1953 Primal Might (M21) 197
5) Stompy 3
I threw this final one together quickly- you'll notice many of the usual suspects. But some new faces: Scavenging Ooze is great against 'graveyard' decks, The Great Henge is an amazing card, and Kogla and Thorn Mammoth provide big creatures plus fun removal.
4 Ilysian Caryatid (THB) 17424 Forest (ANA) 204 Rabid Bite (M20) 1904 Scavenging Ooze (M21) 2044 Wildborn Preserver (ELD) 1824 Llanowar Visionary (M21) 1934 Yorvo, Lord of Garenbrig (ELD) 1854 Questing Beast (ELD) 1712 Elder Gargaroth (M21) 1791 Kogla, the Titan Ape (IKO) 1622 The Great Henge (ELD) 1611 Titanoth Rex (IKO) 1741 Primal Might (M21) 1971 Thorn Mammoth (ELD) 323
Conclusion
My kids are drawn to green because of those powerful creatures. I am, too.
